José C. Matos
José C. Matos has a PhD in Civil Engineering in safety and reliability analysis. He is an Assistant Professor (with Habilitation), Department of Civil Engineering, University of Minho, member of ISISE, where he develops research in asset management, life-cycle costs, risk analysis, structural safety, robustness, and structural health monitoring. In teaching activities, he actively disseminates professional knowledge to students of courses evaluated as excellent since 2015 until now. He is Scientific tutorship/supervision of 11 post-graduate research; 49 doctoral theses (of which 17 were successfully defended); and 32 master's theses (28 were successfully defended). In scientific activities, he actively researches, proposes, and develops new theories and applications in civil engineering. He is the author/co-author of 82 international top journal papers (ISI/Scopus index); more than 160 international conference papers (index by Scopus); 22 national conference papers and 10 technical reports from research projects. He has actively participated in scientific and organizing committees of various national and international congresses. He participates in several international committees, coordinating several international working groups. It also coordinates research projects such as SIRMA - Strengthening Infrastructure Risk Management in the Atlantic Area (Interreg), InfraCrit - Development of a Management System for Critical Infrastructures (Portugal 2020), SustIMS - Sustainable Infrastructure Management System (Portugal 2020) , SAFEWAY - GIS_Based Infrastructure Management System for Optimization of Response to Extreme Events in Land Transport Networks (Horizon 2020), Action COST TU 1406 - Quality specifications for road bridges, European-wide standardization (BridgeSpec), among others. Past-President of the European Association on Quality Control of Bridges and Structures (EuroStruct), president of the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE), and Chairman of Commission 8 of fib - federation internationale du Beton. In disseminating science and knowledge, he is active both domestically and internationally. He participates and is invited to be interviewed in many domestic magazines and television channels, actively contributing to developing knowledge for engineers. He has been a keynote speaker at more than 100 international conferences. He has also delivered more than 100 lectures at various universities worldwide. Thanks to his teaching, scientific research and knowledge dissemination activities, he has won many major awards both domestically and internationally.
