Fabio Biondini

Fabio Biondini, Ph.D., P.E., F. IABSE, F.SEI, F.ASCE, is Professor of Structural Engineering at Politecnico di Milano. His education includes a 5yr Degree (equivalent to B.Sc. and M.Sc.) in Civil Engineering with honors from the University of Perugia, a 2yr post-graduate Specialization Degree in Concrete Structures with full ranks and a Ph.D. in Seismic Engineering both from Politecnico di Milano. Professor Biondini’s research interests cover several topics, including life cycle risk, reliability, robustness, redundancy, and resilience of deteriorating structures and infrastructure systems, with emphasis on bridges and bridge networks, authoring about 400 scientific publications. He is active in several international scientific and technical committees. Among other positions held, Professor Biondini is co-founder, Secretary General, and Executive Board Member of the International Association for Life-Cycle Civil Engineering (IALCCE), Executive Committee Member of the International Association for Bridge Maintenance And Safety (IABMAS), and Former Chair of the SEI/ASCE Technical Council on Life-Cycle Performance, Safety, Reliability, and Risk of Structural Systems. He is recipient of honors and awards from academic institutions and professional associations, including IABMAS, IABSE, IALCCE, IFIP, SEI & ASCE. Professor Biondini has recently been awarded by the American Society of Civil Engineers the inaugural ASCE Dan M. Frangopol Medal for Life-Cycle Engineering of Civil Structures.
