Ahmed Sameer Younus Ninth International Symposium on Life-Cycle Civil Engineering 2025

Ahmed Sameer Younus

Ahmed S. Younus is a PhD researcher in Structural Engineering at the University of Leeds, UK. His research is focused on reducing embodied carbon in reinforced concrete (RC) buildings through the optimization of early-stage design decisions. This involves an integrated approach combining life cycle assessment (LCA), structural analysis, and computational optimization methods. Ahmed holds BSc and MSc degrees in Civil Engineering from Al-Nahrain University, Baghdad, Iraq, where he specialized in the structural behaviour of reinforced concrete elements. He possesses a strong foundation in both practical and academic aspects of structural design, with proficiency in various engineering software for structural analysis and design. Ahmed is also skilled in Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Python programming, which he applies to support automated analysis and sustainable design workflows. Beyond his research, he contributes to academic and industry discussions on sustainability within the built environment. He is an active member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3), the American Concrete Institute (ACI), and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
