Jieying JZ Zhang
Dr. Jieying Zhang received her Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, and is currently a Principal Research Scientist at the National Research Council Canada (NRC). She is a leading researcher in Canada in the areas of corrosion of civil infrastructure, concrete durability, service life prediction, and life cycle assessment (LCA).
Dr. Zhang has also been one of the key technical leads for the NRC’s Climate Resilience of the Built Environment (CRBE) initiative, which aims to enhance the resilience of critical public buildings and infrastructure in the face of a changing climate. She actively contributes to the development of national codes and standards, serving on Canada’s Highway Bridge Design Code and Pedestrian Bridge Design Guide committees, where she leads efforts to advance sustainability and corrosion design practices.
Dr. Zhang leads the Centre of Excellence for Construction Life Cycle Assessment (CECLCA) within the NRC’s Construction Research Centre, supporting NRC’s new initiative on decarbonizing Canada’s construction sector.
