Shangtong Yang is NSFC Chair Professor in State Key Laboratory of Intelligent Construction and Healthy Operation and Maintenance of Deep Underground Engineering, China University of Mining and Technology. Before this position, he was a Reader in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, UK. Prof Yang's research is focused on fracture mechanics of rock-like materials and the long-term performance evolution of subsurface engineering structures, especially for the subsurface energy storage facilities. He has rich experience working in deterioration mechanisms for engineering structures, analytical and numerical modeling of fracture propagation, soft hydraulic fracturing technique and whole life cycle performance evolution of infrastructures.
