Armin Mehrabi

Dr. Mehrabi is a distinguished civil engineer and academic with over four decades of experience in engineering, research, and teaching. A top graduate of the University of Tehran, he began his career in design and field engineering before teaching civil engineering for five years. In 1990, he moved to the U.S. for his Ph.D. at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where his award-winning research focused on seismic behavior of masonry-infilled RC frames. Following postdoctoral work at the University of Nebraska, he joined Construction Technology Laboratories, earning national recognition from ENR for his bridge assessment innovations. In 2004, he founded Bridge Engineering Solutions and later earned an MBA. Since joining Florida International University (FIU) in 2017, Dr. Mehrabi has led significant research efforts, particularly as Research Director of ABC-UTC and in securing the IBT/ABC-UTC grant from USDOT. He has been PI on projects totaling $2.1M and Co-PI on projects exceeding $9M. A mentor to numerous graduate students, he has taught multiple undergraduate and graduate courses, consistently receiving high evaluations. His extensive service includes leadership roles in academic committees and professional organizations. Dr. Mehrabi has authored over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles, 70 conference papers, and several books, with impressive citation metrics (h-index 29, i10-index 71). At FIU, he has filed 11 patent disclosures resulting in seven awarded patents. Recognized for his innovation and academic impact, he was named an ASCE Fellow in 2024, a senior member of the National Academy of Inventors in 2025, and received FIU’s Top Scholar Award for 2024–25. His ongoing work continues to influence bridge engineering and infrastructure resilience at both national and international levels.
