Filippo Carmona
Filippo Carmona is a senior civil engineer with nearly two decades of experience in structural and seismic engineering, specializing in railway infrastructure. At R.F.I. SpA, he leads in the Technical Department – Bridges and Structures the division responsible for technical standards, bridge management, and structural approvals, coordinating a multidisciplinary team and overseeing national initiatives in infrastructure resilience, innovation and sustainability.
His work includes the development of technical specifications, the implementation of drone-based bridge inspections, and collaboration with regulatory bodies and academic institutions on cutting-edge research in sustainable materials and structural diagnostics. He has also directed large-scale seismic risk mitigation programs across Italy’s railway network, managing over 600 vulnerability assessments and 100 structural upgrade projects.
Dr. Carmona holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Rome “La Sapienza.” He is an active contributor to international working groups, including some in the UIC (International Union of Railways) Panel of Structural Experts, and is a registered member of the Order of Engineers of Rome.
