Eline Vereecken Ninth International Symposium on Life-Cycle Civil Engineering 2025

Eline Vereecken

From 2018 to 2022, I did my PhD at Ghent University and KU Leuven (both in Belgium) on Bayesian assessment and Value of Information (VoI) analysis of reinforced concrete structures subjected to degradation due to corrosion. Here, I investigated to what extent information from visual inspections, strain measurements under proof loading, and dynamic data could be combined to gain optimal information on the corrosion degree and improve predictions about the remaining service life. Based on the value of information analysis, measurements and inspections could be scheduled as optimally as possible. After my PhD, I worked for 2 years at an engineering design firm as a structural engineer, performing analyses for different kinds of buildings (schools, hospitals, apartments...). Since August 2024, I have been working as an assistant professor at Hasselt University on the topic of structural and long-term analysis of circular building solutions. Here, I focus both on the assessment and reuse of existing structures or elements and the analysis of new (demountable) circular building solutions. Not only concrete is considered as a structural material, but together with my colleagues, I also work on timber and hybrid structures.
